Description of
"Evaluating Your Workplace Lifting"
The "Evaluating Your Workplace
Lifting" kit teaches basic ergonomics. It also creates a participatory process
by involving people in the evaluation of workplace risk factors. This evaluation produces
a baseline from which simple and low cost improvements can be identified and the effects
of any changes measured. The kit includes the following:

1. Supervisor's Guide
The "Supervisor's Guide" provides the information, examples and overheads
required to teach others how to use the "Evaluating Your Workplace - Lifting"
booklet.
2. Evaluating Your Workplace - Lifting
(50 per kit)
This booklet helps the person performing the task to rate the eight key risk factors of a
lifting task. The booklet also:
1. Enhances ergonomics training of employees.
2. Involves the worker in the process of evaluating his or her own task.
3. Identifies potential problem areas.
4. Enables the comparison of one task to another.
5. Establishes an ergonomics baseline of present conditions.
6. Measures the result of improvements. These results provide a tool for communicating
success to both management and labor.
3. Ergonomic Changes Idea Book
This idea book is divided into 8 chapters corresponding to the 8 rating factors found in
the evaluation booklet. Each chapter contains tips, a checklist and illustrations showing
how to improve the workplace.
4. Computer Analysis Documentation and
Software
This software calculates the compressive force placed on the lower back and compares the
results to NIOSH's recommended standards.
The software also allows alternative workplace
layouts to be inexpensively modeled and compared to the original task. Seeing their ideas
modeled on the computer encourages people to participate in the process.
5. Rating Pad
Each kit contains a pad of 50 additional rating sheets.

Web Based Reporting and Documentation Software for Lifting
This popular software records each
individuals evaluation and then produces a series of management reports. The
software identifies high-risk jobs and/or high-risk individuals. It will also provide
historical reports comparing past to present conditions. Customized reports can be easily
